The illustrated magazine for Swiss and foreign music was published in Lausanne from 1907 to 1914, initially twice a month and then monthly from 1914 onwards. "La vie musicale" was the official organ for the french speaking region of the Schweizerischer Tonkünstlerverein (Association suisse des musiciens). The STV was founded in Zurich in 1900 on the initiative of the musician and journalist Édouard Combe, who worked for the Gazette de Lausanne, by the composers Hans Huber, Friedrich Hegar, Friedrich Niggli and Hermann Suter. The association promoted contemporary music. Together with the previously independent organisations Schweizer Musik Syndikat and Musikschaffende Schweiz, the STV merged on 1 January 2018 to form the Verband Sonart – Musikschaffende Schweiz.
