Schweizerisches Archiv für Volkskunde = Archives suisses des traditions populaires
The Schweizerische Archiv für Volkskunde (Swiss folklore archive, SAV) was established in 1897 by Dr. Eduard Hoffmann-Krayer as a multilingual academic journal for the Schweizerische Gesellschaft für Volkskunde (Swiss folklore society, SGV). Ever since then it has been publishing original works on folklore and European ethnology - on a quarterly basis at first, then biannually. Each specifically themed or miscellaneous volume is rounded off with book reviews and announcements.
The SGV is an academic society (*1896) which aims to record the everyday culture of Switzerland in its historical and contemporary guises. It supports and promotes research into folklore and, together with the relevant university institutes, represents the interests of folklore in the public domain to the public authorities and in the Schweizerische Akademie der Geistes- and Sozialwissenschaften (Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences, SAGW).
