The Berner Schulblatt first appeared in 1858 under the title Neue Berner Schulzeitung. The educational magazine was published for nearly 120 years. From 1986 onwards it continued publication under the title Berner Schule. Until 1921, the Schulblattverein edited the journal, then from 1921 the Berner Lehrerverein took over the task. The Schulblattverein sought to modernize the Bernese school system through the publication of the Berner Schulblatt. In the magazine, among other things, discussions were published on contemporary educational methods, and teaching materials were presented and discussed. The Berner Schulblatt is a rich source for historical research into the pedagogy of the second half of the 19th and of the 20th century.
