The seven editions of «Berichte zur Heimatkunde» from Birmenstorf in the canton of Aargau were written by Max Rudolf (1928-2024). The author taught at the local secondary school from 1952 to 1991 and made a name for himself as a self-taught local historian. The first and second editions of his «Geschichte von Birmenstorf» were published in 1983 and 1991. The Beiträge zur Heimatkunde, published irregularly between 1992 and 2013, supplement the aforementioned local history or draw on sources that only came to the author's attention later. Max Rudolf was awarded the Aargau Heritage Protection Prize in 1997, the only person to receive it ad personam.
