In 1897, the Pestalozzi Society published the first issue of the magazine Am häuslichen Herd. Reflecting the role model of the time, the magazine aimed to help women to entertain and educate themselves in their allocated fields of child rearing and household management. The book association Verein für Verbreitung guter Schriften managed the advertising and distribution and more than doubled the magazine's circulation between 1897 and 1910. In 1925, the former printer Müller, Werder & Cie took over the publication of the magazine. It continued under the same name until 1960. Its aim was to make the reader aware of the intellectual currents in the fields of art and literature and, in addition, sensitize them to life in nature. It was important to have attractive illustrations, which should convey the joy of beauty.
