Die deutschen Mundarten : eine Monatsschrift für Dichtung, Forschung und Kritik, founded by Josef Anselm Pangkofer and continued by Georg Karl Frommann, was issued with various sub-titles from 154-159 and 1877. This journal of dialect research, which counted personalities such as August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben among its authors, aimed, among its goals, to study of sound shifting and language development processes. This auxiliary science of dialectology also aimed at supporting historical research and reinforcing the sense of identity.
