Museum Helveticum is the only Swiss journal that publishes articles covering all areas of Ancient Studies, including papyrology, epigraphy and archaeology. The journal does not only seek to promote and represent Swiss research but also wants to remain in close contact with the international research community. Thus, the journal is open to teachers and students in Switzerland and also aims at promoting young researchers. Since its beginnings, it has been a publication organ for the international research community and publications are therefore often written in English, apart from the three Swiss national languages.
Founded during World War II, Museum Helveticum was established in cooperation with some leading professors of Ancient Studies, who, being cut off from previous European publication organs, aimed at creating a discussion forum for Swiss Ancient Studies and at the same time intended to promote the sense of unity.
