Die Frau in der Schweiz: illustriertes Jahrbuch für Frauen-Bestrebungen
The magazine Women in Switzerland: illustrated yearbook for feminist movements was published between 1930 and 1934 by different publishers in Zurich and Bern. One of the co-editors was Elisabeth Thommen (1888-1960), a well-known journalist who was a strong activist for the national and international feminist movements. A few texts on fashion, education and household tips were published in this journal. Its main task however, was to report on the activities of the various Swiss and international feminist organizations. It saw itself as an organ of communication between different feminist movements which often held different political and social views. It argued against the exclusion and displacement of women from the labour market, against the restraints placed on German women by the banning of feminist associations in Germany and for a joint programme for all Swiss feminist associations. In the last issue of 1934, the disbandment feminist associations in Germany, and the general political situation in that country were criticized in no uncertain terms.
